Home Made Summer Scrubs

Home Made Summer Scrubs

I love scrubs and have often used them but I have rarely purchased any since I love making my own. The advantage with making your own products is of course customising the ingredients to your needs and having the assurance that there are no harsh chemicals that are usually found in store bought products to give them a longer shelf life. These three scrubs are easy to make and will renew your skin and leave it feeling incredibly soft. Once summer comes along I use scrubs more frequently and will use ingredients, which are more typical of that season.

The first one is a cucumber and mint foot scrub. It can actually be used all over the body however I don’t really like the sent of peppermint all over. I never really use a specific amount of anything, since with scrubs some like them harsher and others like a more oily consistency. So one can choose to add a little more or less of the ingredients to reach a preferred consistency. For the cucumber and mint scrub I finely chopped a piece of unpeeled cucumber then added white sugar, coconut oil and a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Cucumbers are soothing to the skin and are full of antioxidants. The peppermint is perfect in this scrub for your feet.

Then I made a body scrub with pink Himalayan salt, coconut oil and lavender essential oil, which is great for stress relief. I just love the scent of lavender and the scrub takes on a pinkish hue due to the salt’s natural colour. Also worth mentioning are the many benefits of coconut oil which is hydrating, anti inflammatory, anti viral, antibacterial and anti fungal as well as naturally antioxidant.

The last scrub is a turmeric face scrub for oily skin. So if like me you would like to control excess oil this scrub is ideal. I used bicarbonate of soda, turmeric and egg whites. The backing soda will absorb excess oils and the egg whites tighten and firm the skin whilst turmeric helps with scaring and acne prone skin.

Making scrubs at home is fun but also economic and customising them to your specific needs means you can make your own ideal beauty product for a fraction of the cost using all natural ingredients you probably already have at home.
